The development of DITA Exchange was started to support several global de facto standards and trends:

• The Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) is the fastest growing XML standard for structured publications according to Gardner and Forrester
• With more than 100 million seats sold, the Microsoft SharePoint platform is the largest collaboration and Content Management platform in the world, and
• Microsoft Word is the de facto standard for authoring content

These three cornerstones forms a solid foundation for the development and deployment of the DITA Exchange solution across industries and markets.
