The unique crawling and indexing of the DITA XML content stored in DITA Exchange can be used for many purposes. The following features are available out of the box:

• Generating a Broken Link Report allowing the user to repair broken links between ditamaps, topics and graphics before publishing (avoiding bad end user experiences)
• Generating Orphan Detection Report will inform the user about 'free floting topics' that are not referenced. These topics may be candidates for retirement?
• Implementing Delete Protection avoiding that no content will ever be deleted. Most companies prefer to 'retire' the content for future reference.

Crawling and Indexing can of course also be used for configuring and generating Custom Reports like:

• What is the average 're-use degree' of a given topic?
• How many topics are generated by a specific user
• How many topics are approved but not yet published
• What is the status of a given publication (e.g. presented in a dash board view)
• how many topics are in draft state
• how many topic are approved
• How many review cycles do we use for an average publication (Key Performance Indicator - improve efficiency)
