The DITA Exchange OpenXML Publishing Engine is available as part of DITA Exchange Server, OR it can be purchased as a stand alone desktop client application.

The DITA Exchange OpenXML Publishing Engine Desktop Client is a simple to configure Publishing Engine based on Word.dot files. For the first time a simple DITA-2-Word Publishing Engine is also available for small/medium size companies who does not want to invest substantial consulting fees in customizing e.g. the DITA Open Toolkit.

The Desk Top Client is extremely easy to use.

1. Customize the Word.dot template delivered with the DITA Exchange OpenXML Publishing Engine Desktop Client
2. Select the ditamap to publish (all topics and graphics must be in the same folder) and
3. Click the publishing button and collect the file produced in the output folder

Post processing could include saving the Word file as PDF or similar.
